Food Depot Alimentaire President Dale Hicks has announced that Acadian Construction has been awarded the contract to do renovations on the former Garrison building.
Hicks says the first step is to get the permits and approvals, and they have tentatively set the opening date for May 2.
He says there will be several phases to the new centre, including a food bank and thrift store in the first phase, and that will be followed by a teaching kitchen and community garden.
The total cost of the project is $1 million.
Renovations are expected to cost around $250, 000.
Hicks says they will be launching a fundraising campaign in the spring to assist with the several phases of the project.
