Six casual firefighters that have been hired on by the Dieppe Fire Department will start their training today.
Deputy Chief Conrad Landry says they’ll be going through an extensive 18 week program, “We have to teach them our equipment and our specific needs. The schools teach them a more generic style, but we need to teach them the the Dieppe Fire Department way.”
The training is done at different departments across the province including Fredericton, Miramichi and in Moncton.
He expects their training will be completed by mid May.
The casual firefighters will be used to cover off for vacations and sick time that is being taken by full time firefighters..
