Dennis Oland’s Defence Lawyers Plan To Appeal Bail Decision

Dennis Oland’s lawyers will be appealing the decision delivered on Wednesday to deny him bail pending his appeal on his second-degree murder conviction in the death of his father, Richard Oland.

Defence lawyer Alan Gold providing confirmation via email that the lawyers are now preparing an application to the Chief Justice of the New Brunswick Court of Appeals for permission to appeal the bail decision.

Justice JC Marc Richard said if Oland was released, the public’s confidence in the administration of justice would be undermined.

Oland was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole for at least 10 years for killing his father. The bludgeoned body of Richard Oland was found face down in a pool of blood in his investment firm office in uptown Saint John on July 7, 2011. He suffered 45 sharp and blunt force blows to his head, hands and neck.
