Training will begin on February 29th, for six new casual firefighters in Dieppe.
They’ll fill in during vacation, sick time, or when additional firefighters are needed.
Deputy Chief Conrad Landry says they have four hired so far, and they are currently searching for two more.
They work roughly 1000 hours per year.
Landry says the casual firefighters receive the same training as the full time firefighters. It’s also a great stepping stone position for those who would like to move into full time firefighting.
Those hired will undergo an 18 week training program starting at the end of the month.
Landry says they like to have ten casual firefighters on staff to be called upon when needed.
