Mental Health Issues In The Workplace Costing Billions

It now costs around $50 billion a year in lost productivity, absenteeism and disability claims, due to mental health issues in the workplace, that according to the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

President and CEO Louise Bradley says this is a growing problem across the country.

She says, “Every week in Canada, half a million people call in sick due to a mental health problem. Mental illness is the leading cause of disability claims.”

If this trend continues, this will become an even bigger problem over the next 25 to 30 years.

Bradley says many of these incidents go unreported and untreated because of the stigma related to mental illness.
