Reports on social media indicate a problem with rats in the north end of the city, and at least one pest control company says it has been busier than usual.
Calls have been coming into Abell Pest Control to investigate rats, that according to the Branch Manager for the Atlantic provinces.
Richard Johnson says it’s due to the milder winter we are having this year. Rats will burrow into the ground under your deck, and because the ground isn’t frozen, they reproduce and then go looking for food.
He says it’s important you get the help of a professional if you see them, “You need to get rid of them, because there are a lot of dangers with rats. It’s a matter of an inspection, to find out where they are, and to determine whether we need to do any sealing before they get into the house.”
Johnson says some of the calls they’ve been getting about rats, it turns out they aren’t rats at all, that’s the power of social media.
