Atlantic Canada Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation Kevin Lacey says the government decided to lay years of mismanagement on the backs of taxpayers by raising the taxes for working New Brunswickers.
Lacey says the government did not do enough in their budget to address the problem of overspending within the government.
He says the government set up a scenario where they tried to convince New Brunswickers that the problems are worse then they are, at a time when taxpayers can’t afford it.
He says the cost of living and the cost of food are all going up and compares the tax increase to “trying to squeeze water from a stone”.
The provincial government included a two per cent increase to both the HST and corporate tax rate in its 2016 budget.
