Many residents of Metro Moncton may not understand what Syrian refugees have experienced overseas before arriving in Canada to start new lives.
Justin Ryan, spokesperson with the Multicultural Association of the Greater Moncton Area, says many refugees may seem reserved and not willing to appear before the media because they have just left a war-zone.
He says, “They come from an extremely traumatic conflict zone. They’re exhausted when they get here and there’s just not emotionally up to it.”
In addition, Ryan adds many newcomers may still be fearful of ISIS since the group has said publicly it would seek revenge on those who flee Syria.
