The out pouring of support for the arrival of Syrian refugees in the province has been overwhelming for local organizations at times.
If you’re unable to donate, there are other ways you can help.
Spokesperson for the Multicultural Association of Greater Moncton Area Justin Ryan says, “Volunteers are also needed to assist the families as they arrive, to take them shopping, teach them how to take the bus, and show them other things in the community.”
He says, the refugees are supported with every step, especially in the first two weeks, but they offer up to a year of assistance to get them used to their new environment.
MAGMA makes sure that the volunteers are thoroughly trained. They receive an initial orientation, and those who will be working closely with the families receive additional support to understand things like working with different cultures, and how to integrate the refugees into the community.
