Overwhelming Support Helps Christmas Food Box Campaign Surpass Its Goal

Metro Moncton has come through once again, to ensure everyone who needed a Christmas Food Box this year, received one.

When the “30 Days of Caring” campaign launched, the plan was to fill over 17 hundred boxes to be delivered to those in need.

President for the Food Depot Alimentaire Dale Hicks says the donations continued to pour in late last night.

He says, “We surpassed the goal late last night, and there are still a few donations trickling in today. It’s tremendous, the outpouring of contributions.”

There was no doubt in his mind, “Two days out, and the turkey drive people were looking at the numbers and saying Uh Oh. But of course, they blew it out of the water. We were sitting here two days out, and saying the same thing, but of course the community came through in the last 48 hours.”

Hicks says there was overwhelming support as well, by volunteers who came out to the Moncton Coliseum to deliver the boxes. He says they had to turn people away this year, because there were so many that showed up, “Usually there’s a big rush at the first, and by 2 o’clock you’re looking out at the parking lot and starting to panic, because there’s only a half a dozen cars there. Yesterday, at 3 o’clock, there were 50 or 60 cars waiting in line, and I had to say thanks guys, but we’re done. It’s probably the best I’ve ever seen it.”
