Preparations continue for the arrival of hundreds of Syrian refugees in Metro Moncton in the New Year.
Mayor George Leblanc says there’s still a lot of work to be done before they get here, “There’s a huge amount of planning and logistics that have to go into place for this, so this is a very big thing for the city and it is something they are working very, very hard on.”.
Thousands of bags of clothing have been donated, and hundred of volunteers have stepped up, wanting to know how they can help.
Leblanc says this comes as no surprise to him, “We used to be known as the city with a heart, and I don’t think that has ever slipped. I think the people of Moncton have the biggest heart of the community that I have ever seen.”
The Multicultural Association of Greater Moncton is playing a big role in the work that will be done to help the refugees settle into their new homes.
