Students Give In Young Blood For Life Challenge

Students in the region are stepping up to give blood.

Each year, Canadian Blood Services hosts its Young Blood For Life Challenge.

Director of Donor Relations Peter Macdonald says high schools are encouraged to book times to bring students in to donate blood.

He says, “Hopefully by being introduced to it in high school, if it is not something they can maintain throughout their lifetime, perhaps it is something they have been exposed to when they were younger and they can come back to it.”

Last year, Moncton High was one of the top schools in New Brunswick to donate, with 108 donations between September 2014 and May of this year.

This year 30 students from Moncton High have already donated blood and they have already booked to attend another clinic.

Macdonald says they’ve also had bookings from Bernice MacNaughton, and Harrison Trimble, and they’re hoping to hear from other schools as well.

Over the past six years, Canadian Blood Services has collected almost 99,000 donations and recruited over 35,000 new donors from the challenge.
