The jury in the second-degree murder trial of Dennis Oland hearing testimony from two funeral directors about the removal of Richard Oland’s body from his Canterbury Street office.
Adam Holly was working as a funeral director for Brenan’s funeral home in July of 2011 and was called to 52 Canterbury Street with his partner Sharlene MacDonald on July 7—who described herself as a funeral director and embalmer while on the stand.
He says because of the injuries to Richard Oland’s head he was placed face down on the stretcher which he says is not common. Under cross-examination by defence lawyer Alan Gold Sharlene MacDonald confirming that they did not wear full body suits just gloves. While in the Far End Corporation office MacDonald says “I watched where I was going and kept my hands to myself.”
According to Holly at the hospital the body of Richard Oland was admitted into the morgue and “was placed in the police cooler.”
Several police officers also taking the witness stand and testifying about that day including Constable Shanda Weir who says that when she went up to guard the crime scene she noticed the door to the alleyway was open. Weir was working in the uptown central area on July 7 and was training a cadet from the Atlantic Police Academy at the time.
