City Hall Park Named After Acadian Poet

The green space adjacent to Moncton City Hall is officially now called Gerald Leblanc Park.

Raoul Boudreau is a professor of literature at U de M.

He says he is very happy with the decision to honour the Acadian poet.

“Finally, I think the solution that we have will satisfy everybody, so we’re very glad of the way it turned out,” says Boudreau.

He says he is particularly happy with the result, especially after opposition built very quickly to the idea of renaming Robinson Court after the poet.

“We found something else, and I think this may be even better, the spot maybe is better, and consensus is important so I think we also reached that,” says Boudreau.

The unanimous Council decision finally put to rest arguments after the original proposal was rejected.

The park had no previous name.
