There’s a serious lack of family doctors in the province and the federal government should be doing more to ease the shortage.
That, from the Chair of the New Brunswick Medical Education Trust, Dr. Donald Craig.
He says the lack of family doctors is especially clear in Saint John, Fredericton and Moncton.
Craig says students sign a moral commitment and for every scholarship valued over $5,000, they’ll owe a year of practice in New Brunswick.
Craig says he asked the federal government for $15 million and was told to come back after the trust raised $5 million, the trust now has raised over $6 million with no signs of help from the feds.
