Oland Jury Selection Underway At Harbour Station

1000 people are making their way to seats at Harbour Station as jury selection begins in the Dennis Oland murder trial in Saint John.

He’s facing a second degree murder charge in the 2011 death of his father Richard.

People are slowing making their way to their seats where the line-up stretches from the entryway of Harbour Station and into the pedway and beyond.

Regional Sheriff George Oram says over the summer 5000 people received a summons and over a 1000 are expected to be taking part today.

He says of those 5000 people originally summoned, many would have applied to be relieved.

Under the jury act, he says there are various reasons that people can be excused including medical reasons and potential financial hardships.

Some concessions are open and the potential jurors are snacking on popcorn and french fries while they wait.
