Group Hopes To Build A Field Of Dreams

Build it and they will definitely come. That’s the hope of a group who run a baseball program for youth with physical and mental disabilities.

For the past six years, the group has been playing on the CN Sportsplex fields, but Volunteer for the program Ruth Langille says they often run into problems for the around 40 people taking part.

Those in wheelchairs can’t stand in the dugout, and have to stand at the side of the field, which is a safety issue. Some kids also have a hard time getting to the field.

She says baseball fields for the disabled have been designed and built in other parts of the country, but this would be the first one in the Maritimes.

They’ve come up with a plan, with the assistance of the City of Moncton to build their own field.

The city has agreed to fund a third of the project, but the Field of Dreams project has to raise the rest.
