Moncton firefighters were kept busy tonight after a transport truck fire on Highway 2.
It happened in the westbound lanes between the Mapleton Road and Gorge Road exits.
Initial reports indicate that a transport truck hauling two trailers caught fire at around 9:30pm.
Residents in nearby homes in the north end reported hearing several large bangs, or loud “popping sounds” before flames began shooting into the air.
A large plume of smoke could also be seen from kilometres away.
Residents also noted the smell of burning fuel or oil in the air.
Firefighters are expected to be on scene for several more hours.
There’s no word yet whether or not anyone was injured.
