Canaport LNG Back In Court

Still no pleas by Canaport LNG on three charges that were laid after an estimated 75 hundred birds died after they flew into the flaring in September of 2013.

Environment Canada launched an investigation after which the charges were laid under the Migratory Birds Convention Act and the Species at Risk Act. The maximum fine on each charge is a million dollars.

The equipment at the terminal has been changed since the birds were killed to reduce flaring and prevent something similar from happening in the future.

The court was told more time is needed to go over the scientific and technical information. Pleas are expected to be entered September 28th.
