The Harper government claims it supports responsible resource development in New Brunswick.
That’s the word from Employment Minister Pierre Poilievre.
He says projects like the Energy East pipeline not only provide jobs, they make sense.
“We also know that it is crazy to import Saudi Arabian oil into Canada instead of using Canadian oil, to create Canadian jobs, while delivering a product to Canadian consumer,” says Poilievre.
Poilievre says the Energy East pipeline is a no brainer because of the jobs and economic spin off.
“There’s no question that this country needs a pipeline to deliver western petroleum to eastern markets, it creates refining jobs in particular here in New Brunswick,” says Poilievre.
Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau on the other hand, did not give his unqualified support to the Energy East pipeline, preferring to work within government guidelines established after the election.
