RTDNA Oppose RCMP Policy To Not Release Names

A new policy by the RCMP not to release the names people killed in collision or victims of crime is not going over well with Radio Television Digital News Association.

President Ian Koningsfest says this will create a lack of verifiable information.

He says because they will have no other recourse, journalists will come to rely on social media, gossip. He says its the RTDNA belief that this is not the best course of action.

Koningsfest says while the information may still come out, it could come out slowly or be inaccurate.
