More Deer Near NB Roads This Spring

A winter with deep snow in New Brunswick has brought deer out of the woods and foraging wherever they can – especially near highways.

Department of Natural Resources biologist Joe Kennedy says drivers should be especially cautious this spring.

“Because they are straving and they are weaker, they are not able to get out of the way of the vehicles as quickly as normal. Also, we did see that concentration of deer at the edge of roads because of that available food source.”

Since the beginning of April, Kennedy adds roadkill has been on the rise across the province with more hungry deer coming out of the woods to find food.
