School Boundary Review Underway In Moncton

Certain schools in Moncton are overcrowded, while others are at less than 50% capacity.

In order to balance out enrollment, the District Education Council is commissioning a study of all school boundaries in Moncton.

DEC Chair Tamara Nichol says Ernst and Young will look at all areas, schools and trends and then present options to the Council.

“Once we receive the study back from Ernst and Young and we have an opportunity with the district to look at it, we’ll have a better idea of how we’re going to move forward in September,” says Nichol.

Nichol says they aren’t only looking at boundary changes, but will include new construction, extensions, and transportation.

“Ernst and Young will look at all of the areas, all of the schools, where the trends are. They’re going to come back with options, or ideas of what we can do to address that to the best possible outcome,” says Nichol.

She says the ultimate goal of the review is to ensure the student population is evenly distributed so all schools are being used to their potential.
