Youth Employment Continued Priority For NB Liberal Government

The Gallant government has re-iterated plans for program to help youth between 18 and 29 get and keep jobs after graduating from school.

Gallant says the youth employment program will fund 15-hundred placements for 6 months for those young people to help them get the first job they need to get the hands on experience they need.

He is optimistic it will be tremendously helpful for both the youth, and businesses.

He says, “If the program works as well as it has been in other provinces, we will see retention rates of up to 95 percent in the business they start with, or another one within the same industry, or even in a related industry.”

Gallant says this program will reduce the frustration for recent graduates who find that so called entry level positions require on average 3 to 5 years experience, as well as increase jobs and provide an increasingly skilled workforce.
