Coffee beans from Brazil are being imported to Saint John and roasted by a local company.
It’s the result of a Latin trade mission in 2013 which led to a deal between Coccamp and Java Moose.
Glen MacLean tells us this deal will lead to more hiring for them.
He says being a small roaster the cost of shipping is very high so eliminating that extra cost makes it more affordable for them to do business here in Saint John.
Port Saint John is largely an export facility so any kind of importing is a significant step.
Java Moose is already using the beans from Brazil with the first shipment arriving in the fall and the next one coming in March.
