Target’s Demise No Surprise

Target started out by disappointing potential customers on pricing and the availability of merchandise on its shelves. That, according to Jim Cormier of the Retail Council of Canada in the Atlantic Region, as the chain announces the closure of 133 stores across the country including those in Saint John, Moncton and Fredericton.

Cormier adds people who had shopped at Target in the U.S. expected the same pricing in Canada and were left disappointed.

Cormier calls the closure disappointing. He says other retailers from the U.S. have been successful by starting out slowly and gauging how they’re doing before expanding.
