Tough Day For Retailers In Canada As Two More Companies Close Doors

In further retail store closure news, two more companies have announced widespread retail store closures across Canada.

Both Sony and Mexx have announced they will be shutting down their retail operations.

Sony will be closing all it’s stores in Canada over the next 6 to 8 weeks according to the media reports.

There is no reason given as yet for why Sony is closing their stores – although Sony products will still be available through regular third party distributors like Sears as well as online.

As for Mexx, the fashion chain says weak sales and heightened competition means they are liquidating all 95 of their stores.

Mexx Canada filed for bankruptcy protection last year and has been unsuccessful in their restructuring efforts since then meaning no more hope for a last minute reprieve.

The Mexx location at Champlain Mall in Dieppe will remain open until the end of February to sell off remaining stock.
