Federal Funding Announced To Help People With Disabilities Find Work

New funding from the Federal government means more opportunities for New Brunswickers with disabilities to find employment.

MP for Moncton-Riverview and Dieppe Robert Goguen announced $398,000 in funding to the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work for their project to provide 40 New Brunswickers with training sessions and work experience with the goal of full time employment.

10 will come from Moncton – the remainder will be from Saint John, Miramichi and Fredericton.

Goguen says with 800,000 people with disabilities across Canada ready and looking for jobs, it makes sense for the government to fund this project.

“Canadians with disabilities deserve every opportunity to enter the job market, and that’s why partnerships with organizations like the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work are so important.’

Goguen adds more people employed is not just good for the economy, but good for each individual as well.

“Because having a job means more than just a paycheque, it’s engagement, it’s nourishing to the soul, and everyone benefits from everyone’s great work,” says Goguen. “It also brings dignity and, as you know, independence.”

Goguen adds people with disabilities are looking for a hand up, not a hand out.
