Premier Brian Gallant says his government does not base their policy decisions on polls.
He is responding to the results of a Corporate Research Associates poll on shale gas exploration which shows 41 per cent completely or mostly support shale gas exploration.
45 per cent completely or mostly oppose shale gas exploration and 14 per cent did not know or didn’t offer an opinion.
Gallant says they set out a series of conditions that must be met before a moratorium is lifted including a clear understanding the risks.
He says they will be putting a task force together to gather information based on the conditions the government laid out and he expects to hear back from before the end of this year.
Gallant says that panel will be announced soon.
The CRA poll was conducted last November before the Gallant government announced it’s legislation for a fracking moratorium on December 18th.
