Alzheimer Society Launches 72-Percent Campaign

The Alzheimer Society of Canada kicking off Alzheimer Awareness month with a nationwide campaign called the 72-percent.

Emily Blaney of the Saint John chapter of the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick says the name comes from the fact that women make up 72-percent of those diagnosed with the disease. She says women are doubly impacted because 70-percent of all caregivers are also women.

She says the aim is to inform women in their forties and older about the warning signs which include loss of initiative, changes in personality, problems with abstract thinking, disorientation in time and space and problems with language.
