Atlantic Canadians are in better shape in 2015 than the rest of Canada when it comes to post Christmas holiday bills.
That’s according to Jeff Doucette, General Manager of Field Agent Canada.
Doucette says Atlantic canadians followed their budgets and paid mostly with cash or debit.
For the most part Atlantic Canadians stayed relatively on budget,” says Doucette. “And they were able to manage to put the less amount of purchases on their credit card so they are in a little better shape for January.”
Doucette says Atlantic Canadians have a lower debt load this January than other Canadians.
“About half of purchases nationally, 51%, were made on credit card,” says Doucette. “In Atlantic Canada actually only 40% of purchases were on credit card.”
Doucette says Atlantic Canadians were using more debit and cash to pay their holiday costs – which is relatively good financially.
However, Doucette did mention that Atlantic Canadians spent more money than the national average of $880 per person.
“In Atlantic Canada the average was $1011, but they seemed to be paying with cash or debit versus credit card.”
Doucette says the spending accounts for more than just gifts because it includes things like Christmas and other holiday decorations.
