Proposed Shediac Mega-Campground Clears Hurdle

Shediac Town Council has approved the rezoning for a controversial mega-campground in the community.

However, the project is not a done deal yet and the group of six developers still have to wait for a traffic study and an environmental assessment to be completed.

The campground is being billed as the biggest in the region with almost 700 sites which would be built on 80 acres of land between Pointe du Chene Road and Parlee Beach Road.

The Shediac Parish of the Anglican Church owns the land but is leasing it to the developers.

Several dozen opponents attended last night’s meeting but Shediac Mayor Jacques LeBlanc told the crowd that anyone against the project had opportunities to be heard despite claims about not being properly consulted.
