Moncton City Council will not be raising taxes this year.
After more than two days of at times intense discussion, Moncton City Council has finally wrapped up their deliberations on the 2015 Operations Budget.
Council was facing a significant deficit of $2.5 million, as a result of steep provincial cuts to equalization payments among other things.
Council voted to cover the shortfall with reserve funds, and other cost savings were put in place including delaying some hiring and changing the way some capital projects are funded.
One of the biggest questions still unresolved is how will the cost of the RCMP operations last June be divided between the various levels of government.
The budget totals $144.5 million, and will be formally ratified at a regular council meeting later this month.
