Strike action by jail guards in the province may have been averted with the reaching of a tentative contract agreement between the provincial government and Local 1251 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees.
Cooks who work for the Department of Public Safety along with human services counsellors and custodians employed by the departments of Social Development and Tourism are also members of that union.
No details of what’s contained in the agreement will be released until it’s ratified.
