A New Brunswick group is hoping the Gallant government will announce poverty elimination measures in the Speech from the Throne today.
Pauline Richard is the Co Chair for the Common Front for Social Justice and she says poverty is a huge problem across the province and needs to be a priority for the government.
She says, “Close to 40 per cent of the population live below the poverty grade of what the national level of what you need to survive. Many work full time jobs and they still live below the poverty grade.”
Richard says she wants to hear more details about a higher minimum wage, and what the cost will be to individuals about the mandatory medical insurance program proposed by the government.
