A rally in support of abortion access and reproductive health will take place at noon today to accompany the opening of the provincial legislature.
The rally is being organized by Reproductive Justice New Brunswick, and Jessi Taylor is a spokesman for the group.
She says the group is hoping to bring pressure on the government to create specialized abortion clinics instead of using hospitals.
She says, “What often ends up happening in hospitals is they are staffed by people who may be Pro-Choice, but they can also be Anti-choice and they are forced to perform this procedure that they are often very uncomfortable with, and that is often taken out on the patients whether intentionally or unintentionally.”
Taylor says by not providing these services in clinics the government is actually in violation of Canadian Law.
