A new law that many dog lovers fought for officially goes into effect today.

New Brunswick’s dog tethering law starts today.

It states you cannot tether your dog between 11pm and 6am, except for short durations, of 30 minutes or less.

The only exception would be if the the dog is in a good house that is insulated from the cold.

Those in violation, could face fines from $500 to $200,000 and offenders could be sentenced to up to 18 months in jail.
