City Of Moncton Cutting 19 Positions

The City of Moncton is facing a serious, financial situation according to city manager Jacques Dube and that is leading to job cuts.

Dube says as the province continues to claw back its so-called equalization payments, the city has to look for cost-savings.

Over the last three years, Dube says the city has lost about $5.4 million from the province.

As a result, Dube says 19 positions are being eliminated at the city through attrition over the next two years.

Dube says the job cuts will mean a cost-savings of about $1.6 million over the period.

He stresses that the job losses will not impact services to residents and many responsibilities involved are being shifted to other employees.

He adds more employees will likely decide to retire going forward.
