No Offer Made To Treat The Wastewater From Fracking In Saint John

Mayor Mel Norton meeting this week with the Premier’s office addressing concerns regarding business confidence in Saint John because of the Gallant government’s planned moratorium on shale gas.

Norton says there was absolutely no deal made to treat fracking wastewater in Saint John but only an offer to discuss options to safely treat and dispose of the water.

Energy and Mines Minister Donald Arsenault was there and says the Mayor did his job.

He says Norton brought forward his concerns about a shale gas moratorium and Arsenault adds the government is still shaping what kind of moratorium may be put in place.

Arsenault did say the Mayor spoke continuously about how a shale gas industry could be the saviour of our province.
