Concerns Raised About Overcrowding At Metro Moncton Schools

Overcrowding in some of Greater Moncton’s schools is becoming a major concern for parents and students.

Members of the Parent School Support Committee from Riverview East presented a petition at last night’s Anglophone East District Education Council meeting.

They say even more students expected to enrol in the next school year, and that will put the facility over capacity.

DEC Chairperson Tamara Nichol says the Council is aware of issues and they are working to come up with solutions.

She says, “There are pressure points and there are concerns, but there are a few things to keep in mind. We haven’t changed school boundaries, we haven’t changed any designations, and we haven’t done any mass restructuring in our district for many years.”

At next month’s District Education Council meeting, members will be discussing the issues of overcrowding at Northrop Frye, which is located in Moncton northwest end.
