N.B. Deer Hunters Harvesting Fewer Animals This Season

After three weeks of the deer hunting season in New Brunswick, hunters have bagged fewer animals compared to last year which was quite exceptional according to the Department of Natural Resources.

DNR wildlife biologist Joe Kennedy says although last winter and spring were tough on the deer population, more animals survived than first thought.

Once the four-week deer hunt ends on Saturday, Kennedy predicts about 7,200 deer will be harvested – down about 15 percent compared to last year which he says was a really good year.

Kennedy says this year’s numbers are still expected to be higher than the four years prior to 2013.

He adds hunters have been better able to track deer this year with snow on the ground in many parts of the province.
