The union representing provincial jail guards is not too happy with the Gallant government.
Everett Godfrey of CUPE Local 1251 tells us the government has passed on binding arbitration after claiming in the legislature they would allow them to proceed there if elected.
Godfrey says they are calling for a strike vote from their membership in meetings beginning next week.
He says they are quite confident that their membership are mad enough now that they will take a strike vote on what the Liberals have done alone.
The jail guards have been without a contract for more than 3 years and one of the issues is wage parity with their counterparts in Atlantic Canada.
Back in August, Godfrey told us the last time there was a walkout, one guard in the Moncton area almost lost an ear and another suffered a broken bone in her face.
