Saint-Paul Man To Stand Trial On Charges of Aggravated Assault and Unlawful Confinement

A 40-year-old Kent County man has chosen to be tried by judge alone in Court of Queen’s Bench in a bizarre case in which he allegedly drove his van around with an injured woman in the back.

David Beaulieu of Saint-Paul is charged with aggravated assault and unlawful confinement after being arrested by RCMP in August when officers pulled over a van in Dieppe and found a woman in the back who had to be hospitalized.

Beaulieu has waived his right to a preliminary hearing and the case will go directly to trial at a later date.

The accused remains in custody and is banned from any contact from the 34-year-old complainant whose identity is protected by a publication ban.
