Deputy Mayor Shelley Rinehart will be the Liberal candidate in the November 17th by-election for Saint John East. That announcement made by Premier Brian Gallant who’s now out in Alberta with his new Energy Minister Donald Arsenault.
Rinehart holds a PhD in business administration and is also a professor at UNBSJ. In a statement released early this morning, the Premier cites Rinehart’s experience in economic and energy issues as being critical. She will have more to say later this morning.
The Conservatives, meantime, have scheduled nomination meeting tomorrow night at which time Glenn Savoie is expected to be the candidate. He lost to Liberal Gary Keating by 9 votes in the provincial election but then Keating unexpectedly resigned last week before he was sworn in.
The Conservatives also selecting Riverview M-L-A Bruce Fitch as their interim leader over the weekend.
