A lot of grief at the funeral service for RCMP Corporal Ron Francis at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Fredericton. Francis, who was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, took his own life this week at the age of 43.
Greg Zed of Horizon Health specialises in mental health issues and tells us treating P-T-S-D is challenging because of other losses suffered by people in their lives which increase the complexity.
Zed says there should be a roundtable discussion, if not national, then certainly in Atlantic Canada on what’s required to properly treat P-T-S-D which takes a long time to do successfully and requires a special skill set.
