The use of renewable forms of energy is growing in the province and the cost is coming down……..That message emerging from a conference held in Saint John by the New Brunswick Energy Institute. Renewable energy sources have grown from 23 per cent in 2006 to 29 per cent this year.
The goal is to have renewables account for 40 per cent of the province’s energy supply by 2020. The conference was also told J-D Irving has commissioned a successful biomass energy plant using forestry by-products.
One problem that will have to be overcome is to integrate the renewable forms of energy into the NB Power grid and avoid having to build additional generating facilities. NB Power is working with Siemens to modernise the electrical grid in the provnce with cutting edge technology.
