More Lengthy Discussion As ZoneSJ Moves Toward Implementation

Nine businesses and individuals who came forward to express problems with what ZoneSJ would mean for their operations have been granted a bit of a boon from common council in the form of various ammendments aimed at easing those issues, and the waiving of what in the future will be a $3,500 fee.

Staff said the goal of ZoneSJ has always been to foster business development, and part of that is helping the applicants continue to develop their businesses despite zoning changes proposed under the new municipal plan. Mayor Mel Norton tells CHSJ News the process has definitely been complex, but the community as a whole has spoken–and he’s confident the plan will be finalized in a vote in two weeks.

Common Councillor Gerry Lowe tells CHSJ News he’s happy that the businesses who came forward with their concerns are being accomodated.

The vote on ZoneSJ takes place at common council in a fortnight.
