Prof Believes NB’s Third Parties Attracting Voters Because They Exude Authenticity

The third parties in New Brunswick appear to be gaining momentum, capturing over 20-percent of the popular vote in the provincial election which is an increase from back in 2010.

Donald Wright teaches political science at the University of New Brunswick and he says more people are moving away from the mainline parties because they play what he calls a cynical game, making promises while campaigning and then breaking them once they get into office.

Wright says the third parties, which in New Brunswick are the NDP, Greens and People’s Alliance, have an air of authenticity and genuine enthusiam and they deliver a very different message than the Blues and Reds.

Wright says if the Liberals and Conservatives in New Brunswick are smart, they will begin to concern themselves with the NDP, Green Party and the People’s Alliance.
