Whether it’s a chance to feed your family and friends, bag a trophy, or simply get out and spend time in the woods, NB hunters have been looking forward to today all summer. Moose hunting season runs in the province from September 23rd until Saturday for licensed hunters.
Haley Brook Camps co-owner David Hathaway of Riley Brook, New Brunswick tells CHSJ News we have some of the best moose hunting in North America and people visit from all over the Eastern Seaboard to try their luck.
Hathaway says the hunting has just been getting better, due in part to the current forestry practices in the province which he says have upped the moose population.
On a less positive note–the province is reminding people it’s illegal to hunt from stands built into trucks–it’s also against the law to carry or fire a gun from a vehicle. Stands built into the backs of trucks also break height restriction and seat belt laws.
Conservation officers says they’ve stopped hunters with stands on their trucks only to find them trying to unload their guns before the officers got there, putting both the officers and the people in the cab at risk.
