Greater Moncton YMCA Offering Free Memberships to Grade 5 Students

Grade 5 students in the city are getting active for free again this year.

Starting on October 1, the YMCA will offer free memberships to students in grade 5.

Manager of Membership Services and Community Global Initiatives Angelique Reddy-Kalala says this is the second year for the program that has proven to be very successful in the past.

“Last year, we had about 155 kids participate. The memberships include swim lessons, tons of activities in the gym, Lego clubs, open swim times, and lots of sports activities. This year we’re expecting double that number.”

Research shows that only five per cent of children and youth aged five to 17 meet the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines.

Memberships will run until June 19th.

Grade 5 students must bring a school ID card or report card and a parent to the YMCA to sign up for a Grade 5 ‘Get Active!’ membership. Once registration is completed, the membership is effective immediately.
